Fierce Fails…

0

This is a kinda different post for me. I think it is important that you all know (if you didn’t already) that I am human and I do have my share of fierce fails in the kitchen. Most of the time, it’s the recipe’s fault, though. Lol But seriously, just know that not everything makes it to fiercefoodie.com. Trust me….I have my share of disasters and “meh” dishes. I’ve just never been the “average chick” so I refuse to post anything average, either. (Average, not to be confused with simple, easy or cheap – ’cause I can be all of those. Lol) BUT, you will never call me average. While these “Simple Blueberry Parfaits” are lovely to look at and were edible, they were definitely too average for me and thereby for you. It’s too bad because I was terribly excited when I found the recipe for them from the highly acclaimed cookbook Baked Explorations: New Twists on Classic Desserts and Treats. I think I may still go out and get the book but I am happy this isn’t the first recipe I tried AFTER purchasing the book or we would’ve had a real live problem. I can’t end with “enjoy” because I haven’t given a recipe so just “carry on”, I guess.  lol

Let’s Have a Toast!

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Fierce Foodie!! A year ago today, it was decided the world needed more of me. (don’t get mad at me, you weren’t present when we voted, lol) As I look back over my posts, admittedly, I am proud. I worked very hard to represent what I would look for in a reference, an escape from the day and even a springboard for my own ideas and creativity. Yay me! Lol

Going into this next chapter, I would like to be more inclusive and break out of my own little blog world. I have a lot of ideas to open up to the foodie world and I’m taking you all with me. Thank you for your support and love. Thank you for trusting me and trying the recipes. Thank you for your suggestions and questions. But most of all, thank you for being Fierce! Bottoms up!

Prior to entering our sophomore year of college, my friends and I decided that we were ready to make the transition to off-campus housing. With our first ever rental agreements and proposed expenses in tow, we journeyed to our various homes for the summer break prepared for war with our skeptical parents. YES! No more shameful trips to the school cafeteria, no more greasy spoon on-campus diner, no more mediocre $4 pizza runs, no more microwaved baked potatoes, popcorn or ramen noodles.  Yep, we were moving up in the world. Unfortunately, as we waved bye to the dorm mother and cut up our cafeteria cards, we failed to take the time to find out if any one of the new suitemates could ACTUALLY cook.

As they started to look more and more delectable to me and I noticed one roommate chewing her hair, I decided it was time to get in the kitchen. My mother and father, both excellent cooks, didn’t really allow folks in their domain (a trait that I am not proud to admit I acquired from them), in fact, they bumped heads a lot just having the two of them there. But, we were all fortunate enough to perform sous chef tasks like chopping and rinsing veggies, stirring a pot or two, and preparing the table. Of course, there is no way you can come from that with NOTHING. So, I started COOKING. I drew upon my memory of my mother’s (unwritten) recipes and my father’s rules and cooking points and tried to mimic them to the best of my ability.

Before I knew it, I was known as the go-to party girl for my friends, sorority sisters and fraternity brothers as well as for any other hungry creature lurking around our now very popular apartment. It was hot!! (in a good way, for the people my age and older who have no business using this term, lol). Not so much the partying, but the cooking and planning excited me. Of course, this DID get in the way of some of the studying I should have been doing, hence the run-on above.

I LOVE watching people eat my food and challenging myself to improve my skills. I know people look at me and are like, she’s allllll that AND she can cook, DAMN! : )

I started this blog because I feel that if you learn something, you should share it, good or bad. This is a haven for people who enjoy cooking and eating. You can come here for recipes, tips, tricks, and how-to’s as I discover them for myself. We’ll share our successes and failures, recommendations and critiques. One of my immediate plans is to have a spot for you to showcase your latest creations and ideas as well. Stay tuned…

Thank you for sharing in this experience with me!

Forever Fierce,

FIERCE FIRST…

This is my very first blog post on Fierce Foodie. YAY!!! This site is intended to provide tips, ideas, techniques, resources, bargains, recipes (and soooo much more) for anyone who refuses to abandon their fierceness to “get in that kitchen”. I realized a long time ago (6 boyfriends ago to be exact) that the “hehehe…I don’t cook….I make take out” bit gets old, really fast, when he’s digging deeper and deeper into his pockets. It loses it’s cuteness quickly. However, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming or have get ugly. Admittedly, it won’t be perfect, but it’ll definitely be FIERCE! I can’t wait!! I hope you feel the same. Now let’s “get in that kitchen”! : )
